First show, paisa vasool!

In a cunning strategy that’s new to Bollywood, Shahid Kapoor has done away with a premiere show and private screenings of his new film with Vidya Balan opening tomorrow; instead, the actor is holding special shows today across a chain of multiplexes only meant for college girls. Tickets to the shows are being sold, yes — actually sold at a premium, after the girls produce their college identity cards. The fringe benefit to this is that not only do his fans get to see the film before its official release, but Shahid will visit each theatre and interact with them at the end of the shows. He’s been on a roll ever since Jab We Met crowned him the new lover boy at the box office. But Shahid is keen on winning more female hearts. “People like me in love stories. I want to do more of them and I hope they continue doing well,” said the actor who counts Tom Cruise, Leonardo Di Caprio, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan as his romantic heroes of all time. “Marketing of an image has to be backed by substance. My films have to be equally good. In the end what helps is an honest relationship with the audience,” says the savvy star quite forgetting that the success of his earlier films had much to do with co-stars like Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Rao in them. Wonder what Vidya Balan has to say about his moving in on college girls with their film today.
